Our dedicated and incredibly brave staff members are delivering aid at this very second, feeding those who have run out of supplies, offering shelter to those who are too afraid to go home and giving water to people sitting outside in scorching heat.
We are one of only a few British based charities with an office in Iraq. The situation is so incredibly dangerous that charities are struggling to gain access to those who need our help.
Human Relief Foundation is working as an implementing partner with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to rebuild communities in Tikrit, Iraq. The objective of the programme is to provide support for the safe return of displaced families through the rehabilitation of affected newly accessible areas. Debris removal has been highlighted by the authorities as one of the priorities for the first six months, which will allow people to return to Tikrit and services to resume.
Work includes the demolition of unsafe buildings, removal of rubble and debris, the repair of partially damaged buildings and the cleaning of streets. Using workers from the low-income daily labour pool, an additional ‘Cash For Work for Debris Removal in Tikrit’ programme will allow residents to earn for their households. The UNDP works in more than 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion.
