Turkey & Syria Earthquake Emergency Appeal

Morocco Earthquake Emergency Appeal

Human Relief Foundation is working with partners on the ground in southern Turkey and northern Syria to bring relief and comfort to a dire situation. On our first aid distribution, we distributed food packages to 235 families. Each food package contained beans, chick peas, fish, sweets and fruit juice.

Further distribution has commenced in May 2023, with aid deliveries taking place from our partners in Hatay Province - southern Turkey, and Jindires - northern Syria, providing hot meals, food parcels, shelter and more. We've distributed aid to over 300 families, with more to come in future deliveries.

Our teams are continually monitoring the situation in both countries to assess where aid is needed most.

The recovery operation for this terrible tragedy will take years to complete. Let us make sure that no-one goes without food and shelter as the long, painful task of rebuilding shattered lives commences. Please, donate today.

A catastrophic situation

A peaceful calm was shattered on the morning of 6 Feb 2023, as a powerful earthquake measuring over 7.7 magnitude struck southern Turkey and Northern Syria, followed by a multitude of aftershocks.

Survivors of this catastrophic event are continuing to grapple with the loss of their homes and loved ones in both countries. The death toll currently stands at nearly 60,000. More than 4,500 deaths and 8,700 injuries have been recorded in north-west Syria alone, adding another level of misery and suffering to what is already is a dire humanitarian situation.

Syria remains the world’s largest internal displacement crisis, with some 1.9 million people living in camps or self-settled sites in the north-west, the majority of whom are women and children. The earthquakes have created new internal displacement movements and at least 86,000 people were reportedly newly displaced since 6 February. More than half of them are children.

Communities helping communities

Locally, in Bradford, Human Relief Foundation has teamed up with local businesses (Mezza, Miraj Banqueting Suite, and BGC Ltd to collect clothing donations, much of it for young children, for earthquake survivors. A total of seven van loads of clothing was collected and packed for the long journey to the Turkish – Syrian border for distribution.
