Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the two major Islamic holidays celebrated by Muslims worldwide. In 2026, Eid al-Adha is expected to begin on the evening of Sunday 28 June 2026, and end on the evening of Thursday 2 July 2026.
These dates depend on the sighting of the moon in different locations, so they may vary slightly from country to country.
As the tenth day of Dhul Hijjah, Eid al-Adha coincides with the culmination of Hajj, when millions of pilgrims gather in Makkah to perform rites that honour the Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) legacy.
Eid al-Adha is far more than a celebration. It is a spiritual reminder of:
This Eid commemorates the profound moment when Prophet Ibrahim (AS) demonstrated complete obedience to Allah (SWT) by preparing to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS). In His infinite mercy, Allah (SWT) replaced Ismail (AS) with a ram, teaching us the value of submission, trust, and sacrifice.
Muslims honour this act of devotion by performing Qurbani, the sacrifice of an animal such as a goat, sheep, cow, or camel. The meat is divided into three parts:
One-third for the family,
One-third for relatives and friends,
One-third for those in need.
This act of charity ensures that no one is left hungry on Eid and reflects the spirit of compassion and solidarity that defines our Ummah.
Around the world, millions of families continue to struggle with hunger, poverty, and displacement. For them, Eid al-Adha often passes without celebration or even a warm meal.
