Human Relief Foundation brought women’s mental health into the spotlight at an event held in BD3 over the weekend.
“She Thrives” was hosted by Human Relief Foundation in partnership with the Roshni Women’s Group at the Madressah Khalilya Education Centre on Saturday 11 October.
Over 50 women attended the event, including Councillor for Bowling & Barkerend - Rizwana Jamil, to take part in a number of activities and discussion centred around mental health and wellbeing around the female South Asian community of Bradford.
A recent study by Surrey County Council found that 64% of South Asian women living in more deprived areas were significantly more likely to experience symptoms of anxiety and depression.
The event feature guest speakers and activities from Bradford arts charity Hive, and well-being practitionersHappy Health You, as well as sessions from members of the Roshni Women’s Group.
The heart of the event was an interactive session focused on self-care, resilience, emotional healing, and the power of community. It offered a chance to pause, reflect, and reconnect — reminding attendees that they are never alone.
Event attendees expressed appreciation for the supportive environment and creative activities, with many highlighting how enjoyable and valuable the experience was.
Human Relief Foundation event coordinator, Ruhena Begum said, “We’re happy to extend Human Relief Foundation’s commitment to our local community and women’s mental health & wellbeing in the South Asian community.
Seeking support is not a sign of weakness, but a courageous step toward understanding and managing emotional well-being. The event has hopefully provided tools and strategies to care for the self, both mentally and physically.
We’re grateful to all who attended and contributed, and we look forward to hosting more events that support and celebrate women’s well-being.”
