Emergency Livelihood Programme for Stabilization Activities in Newly Retaken Areas (NRAs) of Mosul East Bank

Together with the UNDP, HRF provided immediate support for current and returning residents to the NRAs.

March 2017-May 2017
Summary

ISIS captured Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, in June 2014. Mosul City, East Bank, which at the time of programme implementation was under reclamation by the Iraqi Special Forces (ISF) was extensively damaged during the offensive. During this time, Newly Retaken Areas (NRAs) have been made safe and secure for the civilian population still inhabiting houses in Mosul.

Together with the UNDP, HRF provided immediate support for current and returning residents to the NRAs. This provided incentives and boosted the safe return of displaced families through the rehabilitation of roads in NRAs of East Mosul.

The main activities of the programme were removal of rubble and debris, cleaning of streets, gutters, medical centers and hospitals.
