Although we give thanks for everything we have throughout the year, the Holy month of Ramadan is the time when this appreciation is most important.
During Ramadan, Muslims around the world realign themselves with their faith and work to seek closeness to Allah (SWT) through their good deeds and actions. Above all else, Ramadan is a time for faith and family – but what happens when you have nothing?
Sadly, there are many thousands of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) around the world, many of whom are facing a constant struggle for survival. Due to ongoing civil war and conflict in war-torn countries like Syria, individuals and families alike have had no choice but to leave their homes in search of a safer place to live. In some cases, whole communities have been displaced in the struggle for survival.
Many of these people have no destination in mind – they are simply left to roam the land in search of a new place to call home. But with very little, if any, possessions and a lack of clean water, food to eat and essential supplies such as shelter and warm clothing, survival is a never-ending battle.
Add to this the constant threat of danger as a result of the ongoing conflict, and you will begin to paint the worrying picture of what daily life is like for our brothers and sisters.
As a result of the recent atrocities in Syria, almost half of the entire country’s population has been displaced. This Ramadan, Human Relief Foundation is striving to alleviate the pain of this desperate situation for refugees in Syria and across the world.
It costs just £15 to provide a blanket which will protect someone vulnerable from the cold – a simple act of generosity which could end up saving a life.
As the auspicious month of Ramadan approaches, there is still much to do; join us in being the answer to someone's prayer with our ‘Ameen’ campaign this year.
