According to the Tribune (a prominent newspaper in Pakistan) the majority of Pakistan's elderly population have scarce savings, lack social security or health insurance coverage. With poverty levels high across many areas in the country, the younger generations also do not have the means to support older relatives. Many are left alone, to survive by any means possible, during a time in their lives where their physical health is in decline.

Human Relief Foundation is funding a specialist HRF Care Home in Karachi, Pakistan, which provides a comfortable home for those in need. Home to many seniors citizens, many have lost family, lost contact, or simply do not have anyone to look after them. This home provides food, accommodation, medical facilities and treatment, and daily activities for physical and mental fitness under the supervision of qualified and trained carers who have served for many years.  The Care Home project is in partnership with SHED Foundation, a not-for-profit and non-governmental organisation registered in 2011. It is based at the SHED Homes Complex in Karachi, which also works in delivering ration support, improving mental care, treating the vulnerable and helping needy children lead happier lives.

Muhammad, who is a care home resident, told the team: “since coming into the care home, the pain I used to feel has become distant.”

We need donors to come forward and sponsor a senior citizen at the HRF Care Home. £65 will cover food, accommodation, activities, medical facilities and treatment.

Listen to HRF’s Muqaddus Khan as he explains why we need your support.

Please donate today and help brighten the lives of our seniors.
