Job Purpose:

Ensuring all aspects of H & S are up to date and compliant, and Assisting the store manager on their day to day duties when needed.

Human relief foundations have been changing millions of lives across the world for 25 years. We have fed the hungry, provided healthcare to those suffering, put orphans and young widows into education, and replaced dirty, unsafe water with high quality hand pumps. Human Relief foundation work is focused on four main areas: Emergency and Disaster Response and Preparedness, Development Cooperation, Conflict Transformation, and Orphan Sponsorship. We have a number of offices in the UK and abroad, we have five charity shops in London which are managed by the Area manager, the health and safety coordinator will be working under the area manager to ensure all aspects of H & S is compliant in all the charity shops. They will also be assisting the area manager in their day to day duties when needed. 

Key responsibilities – Health and safety 

  • Ensure all risk assessment is completed in a timely manner. 
  • Make sure weekly fire alarm and 6 months fire drills are tested in all premises and a record kept of these.
  • Ensure all fire alarms are serviced yearly and records kept safe in each premises.
  • Ensure all fire safety equipment is in working order and make sure repairs or new equipment is ordered if damaged or broken. 
  • Ensuring all fire safety equipment is checked on a regular basis and recorded.
  • Ensure all fire safety equipment is serviced yearly and all records are kept secure. 
  • Responsible for taking care of any accidents/ spillages/ slips/ trips and fall, making sure everything is recorded in the accident book and accidents prevented in the future.
  • Ensuring all correct signage for health and safety is up in all stores.
  • Ensuring all first aid kits are equipped in all the stores and keeping a record of this. 
  • Ensuring all health and safety reviews are conducted in a timely manner and records are kept.  
  • Liaising with HR in HQ in regards to any queries you may have. 
  • Ensuring any damaged in the stores is repaired in a quick and efficient manner.
  • Manage and record health and safety inductions and refresher training for new and existing staff.

Assisting the Area Manager

  • Support the Store Manager with day-to-day store running
    • Maintain and keeping record of all receipts and banking
    • To assist the Shop Manager to manage all aspects of stock collection and preparation; ensuring that stock processing levels are sufficient to achieve required shop floor density, encouraging stock donations at all times
    • Attend and undertake any relevant key training workshops, events or meetings as required.
    • To present a positive and professional image to customers, staff and volunteers at all times, being an ambassador for Human Relief Foundation
    • To assist the Shop Manager in maintaining a good standard of housekeeping, , creating an environment that is pleasant and safe for customers, shop staff and volunteers

Experience and Skills

  • Must have experience in health and safety 
  • Experience in working in a team 
  • Retail store experience 

Hours of work

16 hours a week flexible, Monday to Sunday 

Salary / Holidays

£18,000 per annum pro rata 

20 days holidays plus 8 bank holidays pro rata
